  • 40 Years Ago: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Released in June 1, 1967, the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band remains the most influential, innovative and controversial
    album in Rock Music.
    - Ranked no. 1 by Rolling Stone Billboard as the Greatest Album of All Time.
    - It took the Beatles 700 hours of recording sessions to complete the album compared to less than 10 of early album Please, Please me.
    - 23 Weeks at no. 1 in Britain, 15 weeks in the U.S.
    - 40 piece orchestra in recording A Day in Life, including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithful and Donovan as guests.
    - The most imaginative art cover, depicting 63 people as Einstein, Mae West, Bob Dylan, Marlon Brando and others. The original idea of John Lennon to include Ghandi, Jesus and Hitler was shelved in the end.
    - The most controversial psychedelic song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Lennon said was inspired by his son Julian's drawing, many critics claim the LSD initials was not a coincidence.
    - Features the longest piano chord ever, lasting 42 seconds at the end of A Day in a Life.

An epic album that only the genius of the Beatles can produce, a revolutionary musical masterpiece of merging the classical with pop music into a bold concept of harmony of different instruments, sounds and lyrics, truly the most important piece of musical genius from THE
    BEATLES! Enjoy!

Is it really Lucy in the Sky with Diamond or this is a Beatles' trip under the influence of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (acid), a potent drug causing delusions and hallucinations and "cross-over sensations" hearing colours and smelling sounds? You be the judge on the greatest psychedelic song of all time!

  • 3 Days of Peace, Rock, Sex and Drugs

No single event embodies the spirit of rock more than Woodstock '69. Held in a 600 acre barn in the backdrop of the beautiful Adriondacks between the U.S. - Canada border and New York City, attended by half a million youth, it was the image of that whole generation. It was a peaceful celebration and at the same time a protest against the Vietnam war. There were two deaths and two births. Two days of rain. Hippies, peace signs, bell-bottoms, long hair, drugs, sex, nudity but generally a peaceful communion between the preachers of peace on the stage and its followers on "grass".

Jimi Hendrix's harrowing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, from his soul through his fingers ripped his guitar strings simulating the sounds of horror of war, will become the national anthem of that event. Joe Cocker's epileptic body moves and soulful interpretation of the Beatles' A Little Help From My Friends, will become a Joe Cocker signature song, now a Rock Classic surpassing Ringo's original Sgt. Pepper's vocals. Carlos santana's Latin rythmn and Rock fusion of his crying guitar and a masterpiece in percussions and drums. Here are some of those classics:

  • The Rolling Stones

The Greatest Rock Band in the World! Started almost at the same time as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones was the alternative to the Beatles. Where the Beatles where the clean cut boys, the Stones image has always been the rugged, bad boys of Rock n Roll. Where the Beatles music was cerebral, the Stones was physical and has never departed from the true roots of American rythmn and blues. The very early demise of the Beatles also propogated the Stones to the pinnnacle of Rockdom. Many dismissed the Stones as simply a rock n roll band without substance (especially from Beatles' purists)but one has only to listen to the depth of lyrics and rythmn of "Sympathy For the Devil" and will learn a course in history, performed in poetic lyrics and melody that could only come from the genius of Jagger and Richards. Another classic Rock masterpiece is "Paint it Black", a 'sitar' accompaniment with Charlie Watt's 'baton' and Mick Jagger's oration. And then back to basic "Brown Sugar" and "Satisfaction" that will shake a concert stadium, will make even a quadrapeligic dance and drive the young girls to throw their thongs to these sexy 60 year old devils! keithmjronrs-singles-63-65stonesandblimp
